About Karnataka High Court
The High Court of Karnataka was established in 1884. It is located in the capital of the state, Bengaluru. It is earlier known by the name the High Court of Mysore. The number of judges position in this high court is 62. They are headed by the state's Chief Justice. There had been 31 chief justices in Karnataka High Court until now. The serving Chief Justice of Karnataka is Justice Lingappa Narayana. Apart from the permanent stand in Bengaluru, the high court had circuit benches in Hubli- Gulbarga and in Dharwad. Later these circuit benched were upgraded to permanent benches. There are three classes of subordinate civil courts in every district of Karnataka. They are District court, Civil Judges Court and Munsiff Courts. There are 30 district courts in Karnataka.
The judicial services in Karnataka include District and Sessions Judges, Senior Civil Judges and Senior Judicial Magistrates, Civil Judges and Judicial Magistrates of first class. The postings of civil Judges and Judicial Magistrates are filled through direct recruitment from practicing advocates. The next category of these posts is filled by promotion. The posts of district judges are filled partly by promotion and partly by direct recruitment from the Bar Council.
